Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade Announces Top 10 Logistics Events of 2024
1. Vietnam Logistics Forum 2024 in Ba Ria – Vung Tau
The Vietnam Logistics Forum 2024 took place on December 1-2, 2024, in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attending the plenary session. Under the theme “Free Trade Zones – A Breakthrough Solution for Logistics Growth,” the forum emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to developing free trade zones, positioning the country as a logistics powerhouse to drive industrialization and modernization.
Prime Minister Chinh highlighted Vietnam’s logistics achievements but also pointed out challenges such as high logistics costs, underdeveloped infrastructure, and a lack of skilled workforce. He outlined three key objectives and seven strategic tasks for the industry’s growth.
The forum also featured specialized workshops and an on-site visit to Gemalink International Port, providing networking and business expansion opportunities for enterprises.
2. Approval of the North-South High-Speed Railway Investment Project
On November 30, 2024, the National Assembly approved the investment policy for the North-South High-Speed Railway, spanning 1,541 km from Ngoc Hoi Station (Hanoi) to Thu Thiem Station (Ho Chi Minh City), passing through 20 provinces.
The project features: Dual-track railway (1,435 mm gauge) with a design speed of 350 km/h, 23 passenger stations and 5 freight stations, Multi-purpose use for passenger and freight transport, Modern electrified rail technology
3. Da Nang Approved as a Pilot Free Trade Zone
On December 2024, the National Assembly approved a pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in Da Nang, linked to Lien Chieu Port. This initiative aims to attract investment, boost trade and high-quality logistics services, and serve as a model for future FTZ policies in Vietnam.
4. Vietnam to Host FIATA 2025 Congress
At the 2024 FIATA Congress in Panama, Vietnam officially received the hosting rights for FIATA 2025 under the theme “Green & Adaptive Logistics”. The event will take place from October 6-10, 2025, at the National Convention Center in Hanoi, with over 1,000 international delegates, enhancing Vietnam’s logistics industry reputation and fostering global business connections.
5. Vietnam International Logistics Exhibition 2024 (VILOG 2024)
On August 1, 2024, VILOG 2024 opened at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC), Ho Chi Minh City, featuring 400 booths from 300+ companies across 20 countries.
The event showcased: Smart warehouses & cold chain logistics, Material handling equipment, Technology applications in logistics, Industrial park & seaport infrastructure
Specialized seminars focused on green logistics and sustainable strategies for the industry.
6. “Open Port” Model Connecting Two Cai Mep Ports
On May 24, 2024, Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) and Tan Cang – Cai Mep Thi Vai Terminal (TCTT) launched an inter-port gate connection. This collaboration enhances port operations, reducing congestion and improving efficiency, positioning Cai Mep as a major international transshipment hub.
7. Vietnam’s First Air Cargo Day Forum
On November 7-8, 2024, in Hanoi, Vietnam’s first-ever Air Cargo Day was organized by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and VIAExpo, with support from the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA) and the Vietnam Association of Aviation Science and Technology (VAAST).
With the theme “Securing the Future of Air Cargo: Digitalization & Compliance,” the event addressed: Global air cargo regulations & standards, Digitization in air cargo logistics and International compliance requirements
8. Viettel Launches Logistics Park in Lang Son
On December 11, 2024, Viettel officially launched Viettel Logistics Park in Lang Son, covering 143 hectares with a VND 3.3 trillion investment. The facility: Supports customs clearance and e-commerce trade between Vietnam and China, Uses AI & IoT for smart warehouse and transport management, Processes up to 1,500 trucks/day, doubling Lang Son’s customs clearance capacity
9. Establishment of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Logistics & Port Association
On December 2, 2024, during the Vietnam Logistics Forum, Ba Ria – Vung Tau officially launched its Logistics & Port Association. This marks the 5th regional logistics association in Vietnam, following Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, and Hanoi.
The association aims to strengthen Ba Ria – Vung Tau’s role as a key logistics and port hub in Southeast Asia.
10. Pilot Green Logistics Project Between Hai Phong and Bac Kan
To support Vietnam’s carbon neutrality goals, the Hai Phong Logistics Association (HPLA) and Bac Kan province initiated a carbon credit pilot project using reforestation-based emissions offsetting.
This effort sets a precedent for green logistics solutions, encouraging industry-wide adoption of environmentally sustainable practices.
